What are the main characteristics of epdm seals

Time:2020.09.11

Ethylene-propylene diene sealant is a terpolymer of ethylene, propylene and non-conjugated diolefin. Commercial production began in 1963. The main characteristic is its superior ability to resist oxidation, ozone and erosion.

Main characteristics of epdm sealant

Low density and high filling

Epdm sealant is a kind of rubber with a density of 0.87. In addition, a large amount of oil can be filled and fillers can be added, so the cost of rubber products can be reduced, making up for the shortcomings of high price of ethylene propylene rubber, and for ethylene propylene rubber with high menny value, the reduction of physical and mechanical energy after high filling is not big.

Aging resistance

Epdm sealant has excellent weather resistance, ozone resistance, heat resistance, acid and alkali resistance, steam resistance, color stability, electrical properties, oil and room temperature fluidity. Ethylene propylene rubber products at 120℃ can be used for a long time, in 150-200 ℃ can be short or intermittent use. The use temperature can be increased by adding appropriate antiaging agent. Ethylene propylene diene sealant with peroxide crosslinking can be used under harsh conditions. Epdm rubber does not crack for more than 150 hours at ozone concentration of 50pPHM and tensile strength of 30%.

Corrosion resistance

Due to the lack of polarity and low saturation of epeppropene sealant, it has good resistance to various polar chemicals such as alcohol, acid, alkali, oxidant, refrigerant, detergent, animal and vegetable oil, ketone and fat. However, it has poor stability in lipid and aromatic solvents (such as gasoline, benzene, etc.) and mineral oils. Under the long - term action of concentrated acid, the performance also degrades. In ISO/TO 7620, data on the effects of nearly 400 corrosive gaseous and liquid chemicals on various rubber properties are collected, and grades 1-4 are specified TO indicate the extent of their effects and the impact of corrosive chemicals on rubber properties.

Epdm sealant has excellent steam resistance and is estimated to be superior to heat resistance. In 230℃ superheated steam, the appearance did not change after nearly 100h. Fluorosilicone rubber, fluorosilicone rubber, butyl rubber, nitrile rubber, natural rubber under the same conditions, after a short period of obvious appearance deterioration phenomenon.
